Review Guidelines
Honest reviews help families pick the right tournaments and give organizers feedback they can act on. Here is how to write a review that actually helps.
What Makes a Good Review
The best reviews are specific, balanced, and based on firsthand experience. A one-line "great tournament" is fine, but a review that explains why it was great is far more useful to other families.
- 1.Be specific. Instead of "the venue was bad," say "the locker rooms were cramped and there was only one Zamboni for four sheets." Details help other families know what to expect.
- 2.Rate fairly. A 1-star review because your team lost is not helpful. Consider the full experience: organization, venue, competition, and value. Reserve 1 star for tournaments with serious problems, and 5 stars for tournaments that genuinely exceeded expectations.
- 3.Mention your role. Whether you are a parent, coach, player, or team manager, your perspective matters. A coach notices things parents might not, and vice versa.
- 4.Be constructive. Even negative feedback is valuable when it is actionable. "The schedule ran 90 minutes behind by Day 2" is useful. "This tournament was a joke" is not.
- 5.One review per tournament. You can edit your review later if you want to add or change something.
Things Worth Mentioning
Not sure what to write about? Here are the details other families find most helpful:
Rink and Venue Quality
Ice conditions, locker room size and cleanliness, warmth of the viewing areas, number of sheets, scoreboard visibility.
Officiating
Were the refs consistent and age-appropriate? Did they keep the games safe? This is one of the most common concerns families have.
Scheduling and Organization
Were games on time? Were brackets posted promptly? Was communication clear before and during the event? How was check-in?
Competition Level
Were the divisions well-matched? Did teams get competitive games, or were there blowouts? Was the advertised skill level accurate?
Food and Concessions
Was there a concession stand or nearby food options? Pricing, quality, and variety matter during long tournament days.
Parking and Logistics
Was parking adequate? Was the venue easy to find? Were there equipment loading zones? Any hotel block deals worth mentioning?
Value for Money
Was the entry fee reasonable for what you got? Number of guaranteed games, swag, jerseys, and overall bang for the buck.
Overall Atmosphere
Did the kids have fun? Were there any extras like skills competitions, opening ceremonies, or team socials?
What's Not Allowed
We want to keep reviews useful and fair. The following will get a review rejected:
- ×Personal attacks. Critique the tournament, not specific individuals by name. Do not name referees, volunteers, or other families.
- ×Reviews for tournaments you did not attend. Only review events you or your child actually participated in.
- ×Profanity, threats, or discriminatory language. Keep it something you would say in the rink lobby.
- ×Spam or fake reviews. This includes organizers reviewing their own events, or posting multiple reviews for the same tournament.
- ×Hearsay. Share your own experience, not rumors or secondhand stories from other teams.
- ×Promotional content or external links. Reviews are for honest feedback, not advertising.
- ×Allegations of illegal activity. Report unsafe or illegal behavior directly to authorities, not in a review.
How Moderation Works
Every review is checked before it goes live. Most reviews are processed within 48 hours. Here is what happens:
- You submit your review and it enters a moderation queue.
- We check it against these guidelines. Reviews that follow the rules are approved, including strongly negative ones.
- If a review needs changes, we will let you know what to fix. Reviews that have not been flagged are automatically approved after 48 hours.
We do not edit reviews. We do not remove reviews just because an organizer disagrees. Legitimate criticism stays up.
If your review is rejected, you will see a notice with the reason and the option to revise and resubmit. You can also reach us at support@tourneyhunter.com.
